In 1540 the topographer John Leland, visiting Ludlow on his itinerary of the principal towns of England described Broad Street as 'the fayrest part of the town.' In 1946 Chrstopher Hussey wrote of Broad Street in Country Life 'There is no more beautiful street in England,' and likewise Nickolaus Pevsner concurred, rating the street as 'one of the most memorable streets in England.'

This publication, throughly researched by David Lloyd, studies the history of the various properties which stand on Broad Street, and the residents who occupied them. Moreover Mr Lloyd goes further than what the eye can see today by examining the plots which the buildings stand on and identifying the residents who lived on the plots back into the thirteenth century.
